Around ten thousands people gathered in Walthamstow after far-right groups called for a demonstration outside an immigration advice centre. Local residents, community organisations, trade unions and anti-racist groups mobilised in far greater numbers, filling Hoe Street with chants of "Love Not Hate" and "Refugees Welcome". The anticipated far-right protest failed to materialise, and the evening became a powerful demonstration of community solidarity in the face of intimidation and misinformation.
